donate $1800 to Mobile Meals
Citizens for Better Government and Citizens for Blount County’s Future presented Monty Arnold with a check for $1800 to support the Blount County Mobile Meals program.
Mobile Meals provides healthy meals for needy, homebound senior citizens of the county. Mobile meals was started in Blount County 34 years ago, by Arnold. To qualify, persons must be 60 or older, be confined to home a majority of the time due to emotional, physical and/or financial reasons. Volunteers deliver the meals, Monday through Friday. This program is part of the Blount County Community Action Agency.
Mobile Meals has been on the minds of the member of the two citizens groups ever since the heart rending Commission meeting where the Commission was forced to accept the purchase by the Sheriff of a $17000 phone and later had to deny a request by Mobile Meals for $15000 due to lack of funds.
The contribution by the citizens groups was in the words of
one member “an effort to show our
seniors that we appreciate their efforts to build and defend our community, as
well as to offset the madness going on in our county government.”
